VESPR, Downtown Oakland

After managing two monumental public art commissions for the main lobby and building exterior, Chandra Cerrito / Art Advisors had the pleasure of working alongside the interior designer and developer to provide interior artwork throughout Vespr, a new residential tower in downtown Oakland. In honor of Vespr's location in the heart of the city, the selected works prominently feature local artists. The diverse creative visions of twelve artists working in a variety of media come together, embodying the rich culture for which Oakland is known and loved.

Pictured left, Caroyl LaBarge’s prints on illuminated acrylic panels flank the main elevator lobbies on three floors, beautifully integrating art and architecture and distinguishing each of the floors.

Many works such as the one by Kwadwo Otempong, were selected or created with the site and Oakland context in mind. Otempong's custom work, made of recycled pulped cardboard, pigment, and glue on canvas, captures downtown Oakland’s vibe in a unique way.

Throughout the main lobby, tenant entrance, "sky lounge," mail room, co-working space, and elevator lobbies, a wide array of contemporary art enhances the building's public spaces and offers residents a glimpse into the creative talent of local artists.
