CHANDRA CERRITO CONTEMPORARY, Oakland
Established as a curatorial project space, Chandra Cerrito Contemporary was one of first galleries in downtown Oakland’s renowned art district, where it operated from 2007 to 2018. It was an active member of Oakland Art Murmur and the San Francisco Art Dealers Association.
The gallery featured over 70 exhibitions and site-specific installations by exceptional regional and national artists, highlighting work with conceptual strength, refined craftsmanship, contemporary vision, and art historical relevance. Among those were solo exhibitions by celebrated local talents Esther Traugot (right) and Amy M. Ho (below).
Chandra Cerrito Contemporary represented numerous emerging and mid-career artists (such as Mel Prest, right, and Sabine Reckewell, below), promoting their careers through regular gallery exhibitions, international art fairs in Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, and facilitating museum acquisitions. Chandra Cerrito / Art Advisors continues to work with these exceptional artists for its art consulting projects.
Each exhibition was accompanied by an artist talk led by a prominent curator, critic or other arts professional, fostering dialogue and education. In 2017, the gallery launched Peripheral Visions, a unique residency program that provided a platform for artists and curators of wide-ranging backgrounds and perspectives to present meaningful projects that incorporated the gallery’s physical space and engaged its community.
